Research
Dr. Patterson and his team work on the identification of genetic risk factors for complications of type I diabetes - specifically eye and renal disease.

The Paterson lab future plans are to continue studying and understand the genetic basis of both the risk factors for diabetes. Identification of novel mechanisms could result in improved screening, as well as new treatments.

Biography
Dr. Andrew Paterson received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow in 1995 and from 1996-2000 he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Toronto. Dr. Paterson was a Research Associate at The Centre for Applied Genomics at Sick kids from 2000-2001. He then became a Scientist in Genetics and Genome Biology and in 2008 Dr. Paterson was promoted to Senior Scientist.
