Research
My reserarch interests include developing a pathogen discovery research program at the OAHPP-PHL. PHL is the reference microbiology laboratory for the province of Ontario. It is involved in responding to the outbreak situation by providing laboratory testing. In addition, it the reference centre for the province for testing and detection of arboviruses. As a result, PHL has an unique access to the patient specimens necessary for detection of novel pathogens that may be emerging in community. I am intersted in developing a robust, efficient pipe-line that will allow me detect novel pathogens using un-biased sequencing methdos.

Biography
I am a clinical microbiologist at the public health labororatory. I provide clinical oversight in reference antimicrobial susceptibility as well as in the vector borne zoonotic diseases. I am also an assistant professor at the University of Toronto in the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. During the pandemic influenza, I was intimately involved in monitoring evolution of virus through whole genome sequencing using Roche 454 GS FLX. Through this technology, we were able to monitor the changes in virus as well as characterize various respiratory outbreaks.
