The Canadian Cardiovascular Genetics Centre of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is primarily focused on large-scale genome-wide association studies to discover genes that associate with common cardiovascular diseases and risk factors, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, and obesity. We are a high throughput genotyping and sequencing core facility, primarily at the service of scientists at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. We are currently involved multiple national and international collaborative projects that leverage our technology.
We are a designated Affymetrix Core laboratory, offering large-scale whole-genome single nucleotide polymorphism genotyping based on the Affymetrix Gene Chip 6.0 and Axiom platforms. Equipped with 16 fluidics stations and 4 high capacity top-loading GeneChip scanners, we have a maximum capacity to genotype 384 samples per week.
The Centre is also equipped with a Roche Genome Sequencer FLX instrument, powered by GS FLX Titanium reagents, features a groundbreaking combination of long reads, exceptional accuracy and ultra high throughput DNA sequencing (available upon request).
